Some Facts about Pyramids.
There are about 90 pyramids in Egypt, the most popular of which is the Great Pyramids of Khufu built at Giza around 4500 B.C (other popular ones are the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure).
Pyramids were built as tombs for Egyptian kings and queens and it was considered an exclusive privilege to have a Pyramid tomb. It was and is one of the wonders of the world, and till the Eiffel tower was constructed, it was the tallest building on the planet. Some interesting facts about the Pyramids are:
• It was built entirely of limestone, reportedly contains around thirteen million stones ranging from 2.5-15 tons in weight, built on a square base covering 13 acres, and took about an estimated 14000 people to construct it over a period of 200 years!
• Most pyramids were accompanied by various smaller pyramids build to entomb the Pharaoh’s family, other members of royalty and the priestly class.
• The three pyramids match the belt of Orion (A constellation consisting of a sequence of three bright stars).
• Contrary to popular correlation of mummies to Pyramids, not a single mummy has been found inside the Pyramids so far. Mummies are found mostly in the tombs inside the valley of kings.
Best of all, the world’s oldest structure is considered so advanced that it is practically impossible to build it again using current technology!
